EU AI Office Whistleblowing Channel Announced

AIWI served as a contributing stakeholder in the development of the EU AI Office's whistleblowing channel — the first AI-specialized whistleblowing channel globally — providing subject-matter expertise during its communication and policy drafting phases. The channel, launched in November 2025, adopted several features consistent with AIWI's recommendations, including anonymous reporting, strict confidentiality protections modeled on the EU Whistleblowing Directive, and a dedicated team of staff to receive and process reports.

Why Whistleblowers Are Critical for AI Governance

The Future Society (July 24, 2025) published a policy brief arguing that whistleblowers are among the last remaining guardrails against unsafe AI development, calling for international coordination to strengthen protections — with AIWI recognised in the acknowledgements for its expert contributions to the piece via Karl Koch and Abra Ganz.

AI Safety Index 2025

The Future of Life Institute's AI Safety Index Summer 2025 (July 17, 2025) featured a dedicated whistleblowing section within its Governance & Accountability domain, for which AIWI was invited to contribute research expertise. The Index's whistleblowing indicators, which evaluated companies on policy transparency, policy quality against international standards, and internal reporting culture, found that only OpenAI had published a full whistleblowing policy — and recommended that Anthropic, Google DeepMind, xAI, and Meta all do the same.
